The 11th International Joint Summer Seminar “Sustainable Development of Cities and Communities: Thriving Locally in a Global Age” was held for four days from August 5 (Wed) to August 8 (Sat). A total of 60 participants, including UNP students and students from partner universities in Indonesia, the Philippines, South Korea, Mongolia and the USA, took part in the seminar. In addition to activities in Niigata City, the students were divided into two fieldwork routes, the Uonuma/Minami-Uonuma area and Tokamachi area. Through a special lecture and group work, they explored strategies for regional revitalization. The students all seemed to enjoy the seminar while seriously engaging in learning. They exchanged opinions mainly in English and sometimes in Japanese. On the final day, each group gave a presentation on what they had learned during the seminar. Based on the evaluation by UNP faculty members, Group 2 and Group 6 were selected as recipients of the Best Presentation Award.
