The International Joint Summer Seminar “Sustainable Development of Cities and Communities: Thriving Locally in a Global Age” will be held from August 5th to 8th. Students from our overseas partner universities, the University of the Philippines Los Baños (Philippines), De La Salle University (Philippines), IPB University (Indonesia), Shanghai International Studies University (China), Heilongjiang University (China), Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (South Korea), National University of Mongolia (Mongolia), Mongolian University of Science and Technology (Mongolia), Saint Mary’s University (Canada),  Honolulu Community College (USA) and Leeward Community College (USA) plan to participate in this seminar. Together with UNP students, they will visit sake brewery and companies in Niigata city and factories in the Tsubame area to explore ways for sustainable development of the region in a Global age.

On July 18, the “Summer Seminar Online Social Networking Event” was held so that students who will take part in the Joint Summer Seminar could get to know each other via Zoom before they meet in person next month.

EVENT REPORT

【The 10th International Joint Summer Seminar was held】

The 10th International Joint Summer Seminar “Sustainable Development of Cities and Communities: Thriving Locally in a Global Age” was held for four days from August 5 (Mon.) to August 8 (Thu.). A total of 51 participants, including UNP students and students from partner universities in the China, Indnesia, Philippines, South Korea, Mongolia, USA and Canada studied regional revitalization strategies through a special lecture and took part in group work. In addition, students experienced fieldwork in Niigata City (visits to: NAMICS CORPORATION, TAKESHO FOOD & INGREDIENTS INC., Takano Sake Brewery), Tsubame City (TOJIRO factory) and Yahiko Shrine. The students all seemed to enjoy the seminar while at the same time seriously learning new information. During these activities, the students exchanged opinions mainly in English and sometimes in Japanese. On the final day, each group made a presentation on what they had learned during the seminar. Based on screening by our faculty, Group 1 and Group 7 were selected for the Best Presentation Award. Congratulations to Group 1 and Group 7!
