Types of Exam
The Graduate School offers three types of entrance exam. For more details on important issues pertinent to the application, please refer to the application guidebook.
Recommendation
Applicants are examined on the basis of English and an interview.
※ Recommendation from your university supervisor or other academic advisor is required.
General Selection・Special Selection for Professionals
International students are examined on the basis of specialized subject (short essay),English proficiency and an interview. If you are eligible for this category, you are requested to compose and submit a short essay along with your applications. Although an essay can be written either Japanese or English, it must not exceed 5000 letters in Japanese or 2500 words in English.Essay information will be posted on the News.
Special Selection for International Students
International students are examined on the basis of specialized subject (short essay), English proficiency and an interview. If you are eligible for this category, you are requested to compose and submit a short essay along with your applications. You can select one of the two essay questions that are shown in advance. Although an essay can be written either Japanese or English, it must not exceed 5000 letters in Japanese or 2500 words in English.>News.
Purpose and Summary of Entrance Exam
Entrance exams are conducted to evaluate the degree to which the research capability and interests of applicants are well suited to our program and course requirements. They may include exams on specialized subject, English proficiency, and interview.
Specialized Subject (Essay)
This exam is conducted to evaluate applicants’ knowledge and analytical capability for sub-topics of International Studies and Regional Development (International Society). We emphasize the capability to logically discuss the issues on international relations and political economy of east Asian countries by employing theoretical frameworks of analysis.
English Proficiency
English proficiency will be evaluated on score records of TOEIC or TOEFL (iBT or PBT) or IELTS(Academic) that applicants submit at the time of application.
※ If you do not have any document verifying your English language proficiency,you have to take the CASEC test on the admission exam day.
Interview
An interview is conducted on the basis of the research proposal. The purpose here is to evaluate whether applicants have a clear research goal and sufficient knowledge of topics of interest and whether their research would be academically important and feasible within the period of attendance at the program.
