Purpose

We study the Chinese economy from various perspectives in order to deeply understand and promote cooperation in Northeast Asia and provide materials, knowledge and information on the latest trends concerning the Chinese economy.

Overview

In recent years, tensions between the United States and China have become more apparent, and the United States has implemented export controls targeting China. Since China is a major business partner for Japanese companies, they are also likely to be affected. Although China recovered from the COVID-19 infection in 2021, the economy slowed in 2022. China is a production site for Japanese manufacturing companies expanding into China and a large market for Japanese companies. In addition, the number of patent applications by Chinese companies has increased rapidly in recent years, and the technology has improved in the EV and AI fields. While these companies are competitive rivals for Japanese companies, they also have the potential to cooperate in business. Investigating and researching China’s economic situation and related policies is important for the business development of Japanese companies as well as being useful for fostering new industries.

The economic growth rate is gradually declining, and China’s agricultural development is facing new challenges as it transitions to a new normal. Investigative research and comparative analysis of Japan-China agriculture, utilizing public data from the government and data obtained through agricultural field surveys are very important to strengthen a stable food supply and deepen regional cooperation in agriculture as we work to solve modern agriculture problems. The knowledge obtained can also help provide policy proposals related to improving agricultural productivity, guaranteeing food supply, and regional development.
