主なテーマ

主観的幸福感について、アジア人の生活の質について、政策選好について

主な内容

　私の専門は公共選択です。政治的な問題を経済学的に分析するという経済学の中の一分野です。大学院生の時は、米国カリフォルニア州内の地方政府（群や市）の役人や州議会議員に対する投票率と州議会議員の議会における投票行動を研究していました。これらを地方政府の主な財源である固定資産税を1%に制限する提案13号が可決されたという出来事（1978年予備選挙）を中心に分析していました。さらに、日米中央政府の政府支出の月次パターンも研究していました。

　現在は、アジア人の幸福度に影響を与える要因や政府の支出政策に対する人々の好みなど、公共選択の分野に限らず学際的な研究も行っています。例えば、アジアでは、結婚していることや生活水準の高さが幸福度にプラスの影響を与える傾向があることが分かりました。日本と韓国では、年齢が高くなれば幸福度が下がるという傾向が見られます。平均的なアジア人は、年齢が高いほど、年金に対する政府支出の増加を望む傾向があることがわかりました。
